On our way back from the coast, we stopped in McMinnville, Oregon to explore the Evergreen Aviation Museum. This is such a beautiful area of Oregon. It is in the heart of Oregon's wine country and the drive from the coast down to this area is breath taking with all the vineyards, farms, and small towns.
This museum is very well done and just the tip of the iceberg to what it is going to become. It is home to Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose and many many other airplanes. We only had time to explore the aviation building- but their is another whole building full of aerospace and an outdoor playground.
We loved this Ford Tri Motor. It was adorable. I was imagining being a passenger on this airplane back in its hay day.
Madilyn and I were pretty excited to sit in the cockpit of the Spruce Goose. It was so neat. We had to pay an extra $25 to do it, but it was so worth it.
Here are Paul and Cowen sitting right where Howard Hughes sat on the maiden (and only flight) that the Spruce Goose ever had. Pretty cool. Cowen was actually trying to get this huge wooden airplane off the ground!!!
and their is also a winery at this place. So we had to get a bottle after our wine tasting. Pretty cool to have a wine tasting at an aviation museum.
I couldn't keep my eyes off this building with the 747 on top of it. It was amazing and this picture doesn't do it justice. This is going to open next June and it is going to be a waterpark....I pretty much couldn't believe it. There is going to be a waterslide that goes from the body of this airplane down into a huge pool in this building. They are also building a hotel/resort on the grounds too. They are trying to get this area to be sort of a Napa Valley of Oregon. We can't wait to return once this project is done.
